Historic Lodging

Scenic views.
Fresh country air.
Peaceful.  Historical.  Restful.
Dating back to 1857, our property began as a stage coach stop and weigh station for travelers along the fabled Old Spanish Trail route that ran over the nearby Guadalupe River crossing and through Comfort on what is now called High Street.  Frederich Christian Meyer arrived in Comfort in 1862 and worked here as a wheelwright. He later purchased the property and built a two-story rock home for he and his wife, Ernestine in 1869.  Together, they raised 8 children in this home, now affectionately referred to as the Old Homestead Haus (which can be booked online as 601 The Homestead).  To assist his wife with her work as a midwife for the surrounding area and ranches, Meyer built a separate building in 1872 with two maternity rooms (now Suites 201 and 202). In 1887, the Meyers built a two-story building just behind their home to serve as a hotel and dinng hall.  The Meyer Hotel, as it was called, quickly became a popular welcome haven for travelers.

Today, the hotel is run as the Meyer Inn on Cypress Creek, with greatly expanded accommodations for more overnight guests.  Our beautifully-landscaped grounds include a classic swimming pool, fish pond with gently-running fountain and spectacular views of Cypress Creek that will make your stay a delight. The property includes multiple screened-in porches, patios with firepits for guest use and quick access from any room to walk along the creek.  We are sure you will feel rejuvenated after a walk under towering Cypress trees.  We are just down the street and an easy walk to downtown shops, restaurants, wine-tasting rooms and bars.
